Tips on loss prevention, and other things to do if you become lost.

bulletNever go any where with out telling someone where you are going, what time you are planning to return, and who you are going with.
bulletWhen hiking in the woods, leave a note on the dash board of you car with the trail name and approximate time you plan on returning.
bulletIf you are going camping or hiking, a whistle can carry sound a lot farther than your voice.
bulletWear bright colors! They will help hunters in the area spot you and not mistake you for wild game.
bulletCarry a bright colored garbage bag or a poncho big enough to put over you should you become lost. This will help block wind and rain, and the bright color will stand out for searchers.
bulletIf you are going hiking, you can make a copy of your foot print by using aluminum foil and a towel. This will give searchers a excellent view of the type and size shoe that you are wearing.
bulletNever run from searchers! They are there to help you get home safe. No one is going to be mad at you.
bulletIf you hear your name being called out or see someone that is looking for you, stand up if you are able. Wave your arms and blow your whistle over and over.
bulletMake yourself big by staying close to a tree in a open area. This way if you see a helicopter you can be spotted a lot easier. If you see a helicopter, do not stand up and wave at them. Lay down on your back and extend your arms and legs like a snow angel to make yourself a bigger target for search teams.

If you become lost, search teams are going to be looking for you.

As soon as your loved one realizes that you are missing they will be calling the local authorities and giving them the information you provided before you left. Becoming lost in the woods is not a uncommon thing. If you should become hurt while on a hike or camping, the information you leave behind may make the difference of how fast a team can find you.
